Tammuriata Nera is a Neapolitan traditional song written at the end of the Second World War. It is about black children being born in Naples to women who had had sex with black servicemen.
In composing Tammuriata Oscura I have chosen this well known Italian folk tune and kept a fragment of its melody that I consider to be the key element of the song. Starting from this quotation I have stitched around it new musical elements and melodies that incorporate electronic production, processed sitar and watery guitars, seeking to give what I perceive as reasonably dated music contemporary relevance through recycling and renovation. This is also a way to incorporate my origins into my compositions, while exploring how travels have affected the amount of Italian character in my music. I am trying to combine the different cultural inputs that I have absorbed during the past years with musical memories that are rooted in my childhood, trying to find a musical continuity between the two that aims to be unique, since it constitutes a melange of such peculiar circumstances.
